World Triathlon Championships – Wollongong, Australia, NSW

Friday 17th October, 2025

I qualified for the 2025 Age Group World Championships after my Qualifier Triathlon in Southport in May 2024. Its been over a year in the planning but I made the trip to Australia, via New Zealand, for the event and a month long trip seeing some of these beautiful countries.

The event was held in the amazing location of Wollongong, a city an hour south of Sydney with beautiful scenery and stunning beaches.

The sea swim in Wollongong Harbour had to be altered at the last minute to stay within the harbour walls due to the windy weather. A respectable third out of the water and onto a very hilly technical bike course. The day heated up by the time I got onto the run course, again hilly but a very enjoyable run around the lighthouse and headland with amazing views. Finished 17th out of 33 in an age group heavily loaded with Aussies and Kiwis as expected.

Sunday 19th October

I was then selected to participate in the Mixed Team Relay, GBR Age Group 120-159 – Team 3. A splash and dash super sprint with a great group of athletes I’d never met before. Great start with our first athlete first out of the water, less windy than Friday and we all had a really great race. Proud to say Team 3 beat Team 2 finishing in 4th place in our category.

The whole trip, both the triathlon events and the sightseeing have been the most amazing experience. It was also wonderful to have family over to watch and support me too.

That’s a wrap now for the 2025 season and what a season it’s been. Had some great results both in local triathlons and qualifiers for 2026, in fact my most successful year to date. Now for some hard winter training ready for the start of the season in April 2026.

Thank you as always to my supporters and sponsors for everything you do. Special shout out to Carrine Green for her expert coaching, Richard and Paul at Racescene for saving the day keeping my bike on the road and putting it back together when I break it, and Gary Flack for some amazing photo shoots. Thank you also to Tadcaster Physio for keeping my aches and pains at bay, Tadcaster Swim Squad for helping me train, Colin at Raceskin for an excellent wet suit and Tadcaster Community Swimming Pool for your support and giving me the time off to attend this event. Thanks also to Lifting Safety and Document solutions for your sponsorship.
